James Wand's Red Ribbon Week show

Operation Be Smart is a great way to teach your students about the dangers of alcohol, cigarettes/vaping and drugs. This is much more than a “Just Say No” type assembly, however. James explains to the kids why these substances are harmful and provides techniques to help avoid them in an age-appropriate way.

James Wand shows kids how to say “no!” to alcohol, cigarettes/vaping and drugs — and “YES!” to a bright future.

James believes that unless the children are engaged and entertained they will not pay attention to the important message. The audience is spellbound by his amazing tricks and captivated by an exciting story of secret agents and evil enemies!

James has appeared at the International Spy Museum, the White House, the Vice-President’s residence and on Fox News. The show is designed for grades pre-K through 6th grade.

James Wand is absolutely amazing! His Operation Be Smart program provided a great message about the dangers of drugs and alcohol as well as a powerful message about how to say no. His humor and magic kept the students laughing and engaged. I would definitely invite James back to my building any time!

Our students learned valuable lessons on making good choices during this presentation. All the students were entertained and enjoyed the performance. It was wonderful to look up in the bleachers and see all of our kids paying attention.

Common questions

What does Operation Be Smart cover?

The dangers of alcohol, cigarettes and vaping, and drugs. It goes further than a Just Say No assembly by explaining in an age-appropriate way why these substances are harmful, and giving students practical techniques for saying no.

Is the show only available during Red Ribbon Week?

No. It was built for Red Ribbon Week but runs all year round, and schools book it for health and wellness weeks or whenever it fits the calendar. Booking outside late October also means far more dates are open.

When do October Red Ribbon Week dates fill up?

Early in the fall. Red Ribbon Week is a single week in late October and every school in Texas wants the same few days, so those dates are usually gone well before the month arrives.

What grades is it for, and how long does it run?

Pre-K through 6th grade, 40 minutes, suitable as a single whole-school assembly.

What does it cost to book?

$1,100 for one show and $500 for each additional show on the same day. There are no travel or mileage fees anywhere in Texas.
